Helping Hands

What is Joy Junction?

Joy Junction is a 501(c)3 faith-based church ministry, providing both emergency and short-term food, housing and counseling for homeless women and families.

We are the largest shelter for families in the state, with the capacity to serve 300 people a day, about 80 whom are children. We serve over 100,000 meals each year.

Who does Joy Junction Serve?

Joy Junction shelters homeless or abused women, couples and homeless men with children. Children are accepted only with a parent or guardian also staying at the shelter.

We provide for their basic needs, as well as, for their deeper emotional and spiritual needs and make every effort to help get them back on their feet again. Our approach focuses on the individual and their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

How Long can guest stay?

Guests may stay as long as necessary to become ‘whole’ and return, as functional members, to the community.

We also provide longer-term transitional housing and an opportunity to learn life skills in a structured environment.

How is Joy Junction funded?

Joy Junction is a non-profit church ministry. We receive no federal, state, or city funds. All funding comes from individuals, businesses and a small number of churches. Last year, your gifts helped many thousands of women, men, children and babies.

Who refers families to Joy Junction?

Families in need of our services are referred to us from agencies, churches, hospitals and other sources.

Joy Junction complements the work of other agencies such as the Albuquerque Rescue Mission, the police and sheriff’s departments and hospital emergency rooms.

We invite you to get involved. You may refer the homeless whom you see in the community to call us. Call us at 505-877-6967 or check on them and ask if they would like our help.

Homeless Families
According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, approximately 3.5 million people nationally, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year.

This disturbing figure represents more than the population of the city of Chicago (2,900,000).

These statistics directly impact all of us here in Albuquerque. Joy Junction is experiencing a daily increase in the number of those coming to us for help.

In the last two years, the population of Joy Junction has doubled, growing from 150 to 300 people daily.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

On behalf of these now hopeful and healing homeless women and families, THANK YOU.
YOU make this ongoing ministry of compassion possible.

Letter from the Founder

Dear Friend of Joy Junction,
Since Joy Junction was founded in 1986, we have been able to help thousands of men, women, babies, boys and girls who have found themselves in need of a “Hand-UP”. We would not be able to continue this work if it were not for your role in this community outreach.

Through your kindness, we have helped thousands of people last year. Because we do not receive any government funding and are not a member of the United Way, that means we depend on your support to provide the vital resources necessary to continue this ministry.

As I think of all that you and I have been able to accomplish in the lives of others, all I can say is...
Jeremy Reynalds, Ph.D
