FINANCIAL GIFT

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED....MAKE A FINANCIAL GIFT

Your financial gift is always welcome at Joy Junction. You are investing in sustaining and restoring the lives of precious people, each with a unique destiny. Your support helps provide ministry services which meet the immediate and basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing. But, even more than that, your gift helps to open doors into a future of hope for the homeless and near-homeless who come to Joy Junction. Did you know that 100% of our financial support for our year-round programs is from individuals, churches, community groups, foundations and businesses? No funding is received from the United Way or from Federal/State/County Governments. There are many ways to help Joy Junction financially, including:

MATCHING GIFTS

More than 1,000 corporations and organizations offer programs to employees that match charitable contributions, either in whole or part. In some cases, gifts from spouses, directors, and retired employees are also eligible for a match.

State of New Mexico employees can give to the Shelter by designating NM State Employee’s Charity Campaign gifts to Joy Junction. You can also designate United Way gifts at work to Joy Junction. Joy Junction is not a United Way organization.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIES

Gifts of appreciated securities are a popular addition to cash gifts since they offer many tax advantages. In addition to receiving an income tax deduction for the full market value of the securities, you also avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation. In essence, you save twice--on income tax and capital gains tax. Consult your financial advisor, attorney or tax professional for details.

GIFTS OF REAL PROPERTY

Gifts of real property can consist of almost any type of real estate, including personal or recreational residences, farms, ranches, commercial buildings, or land. Individual goals and financial needs determine the most appropriate methods of giving real estate property. Options for giving include:

an outright gift;
a life income gift in which you receive an income based in part on the net proceeds of the sale; or a life tenancy gift, in which you retain the right to live on the property for your lifetime. If you are interested in making a gift of real property, please contact Joy Junction at (505) 217-9586.

PLANNED/DEFERRED GIVING

Planned or deferred gifts enable you to provide future support for Joy Junction. These types of gifts generally provide favorable tax benefits and may provide you with a life income stream.

Planned gifts are connected directly to your financial and/or estate plans. Deferred gifts are given today, but the Shelter will not realize their benefit until sometime in the future. There are a number of different types of planned outlined below. Consult your financial advisor, attorney or tax professional to see how these gifts might fit into your estate plans.

If you are interested in receiving information on any of these planned giving vehicles or have a question, please call 877-6967 for more information.

PLANNED GIVING - WILLS (BEQUEST)

The Lord has blessed Joy Junction with many thoughtful donors who have remembered the Shelter in their wills. A bequest is made through a written and executed will; adding a bequest for the Shelter can be done through a simple codicil such as the following:

“I give, devise or bequeath to Joy Junction, 4500 Second Street SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87501, all (or state fraction) of the rest, residue or remainder of my estate, whether real or personal, to be used for its general purposes”

- or -

“I give to Joy Junction, 4500 Second Street SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87105, the sum of _____ dollars to be used for its general purposes.”

Charitable bequests to the Shelter have several advantages: You can designate a bequest to the Shelter in support of all of its programs and activities. Bequests are deductible for estate tax purposes and may place your estate in a lower tax bracket.

PLANNED GIVING - GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE

Gifts of life insurance provide donors with two options:

You can make Joy Junction the owner and beneficiary of an existing policy, which removes the policy from your taxable estate and earns you an immediate income tax deduction approximately equal to the cash value of the policy. Future premium payments are also tax deductible.

You can take out a new life insurance policy that names Joy Junction as the owner and beneficiary; all premium payments then will be deductible from your income tax as a charitable deduction.

PLANNED GIVING - GIFTS OF RETIREMENT PLAN ASSETS

While tax-deferred assets from IRAs, 401(k)s, Keough plans, profit sharing plans, or 403(b) annuity plans are a great source of retirement income, they are not always the best gift you can provide for your loved ones. Without careful planning, estate and income taxes can consume as much as 75% of these funds, leaving little for your heirs. By designating Joy Junction as the beneficiary of any remaining funds, you will reduce the tax burden for your heirs and have the satisfaction of knowing that you have provided a meaningful gift to the Shelter.
